A project based near Burnham-On-Sea which is encouraging species of wading birds to the Somerset Levels has received support from Wessex Water this week.
Secret World is aiming to attract a greater variety of birds to its centre at East Huntspill and has received hundreds of pounds of funding from the water company.
In 2000, the charity planted a Millennium wood which has already provided a habitat for harvest mice, barn owls, long-eared and pipistrelle bats and a variety of birds.
Wessex Water is supporting the charity’s latest project, which will open up an existing gulley to help increase the bio-diversity of the area by attracting a variety of wading birds. When complete, it will be incorporated into a discovery trail.
The water company has provided a grant of £500 through its Watermark award scheme to support the initiative.
Danni Perrott, from Secret World, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The centre encourages the respect and protection of our wildlife and the habitat in which it lives. We are delighted to have the support of Wessex Water.”
The Watermark award scheme provides funds for environmental projects within the Wessex Water area.
