Man evacuated from barge near Hinkley by Burnham-On-Sea RNLI

Burnham-On-Sea’s lifeboats and Coastguards were called out late last night (Friday) to perform a medical evacuation of a person from onboard a barge near Hinkley Point.

Both Burnham’s RNLI lifeboats were called out soon after 10.00pm after reports that the man was unwell on a Fugro barge.

Coastguards were also called to the scene to meet the casualty when he was brought ashore to a waiting ambulance.

Coastguard Officer Dave Welland told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were tasked to help with a medivac from a Hinkley Point barge after a man had become unwell and needed assistance.”

“Both lifeboats went out to the man and transferred him back to jetty at Burnham where he was met by Coastguards and a waiting ambulance for a precautionary check over.”

The man was helped off the lifeboat by the crews before he managed to walk up the jetty to the waiting ambulance where he was checked over by paramedics.

“The soft track vehicle of the RNLI recovered the lifeboat back to the shore and the casualty who was able to walk to the waiting ambulance.”

“It was great to work with the lifeboat team, and the outcome was a successful one. Multiple agencies working together to achieve the right goals as one unit.”
