Burnham-On-Sea Carnival – Final countdown to tonight’s parade!

-

Thousands of people are expected to line the streets of Burnham-On-Sea tonight (Monday) to watch dozens of colourful illuminated floats take part in the 71st annual Highbridge and Burnham Carnival.

Tonight’s procession starts at 7.30pm, and spectators are being advised to wrap up warm with temperatures of 10°C forecast, but it’s expected to remain dry.

More than 80 colourful entries will take part in tonight’s parade. The biggest cheers of the night from local spectators are sure to be for Burnham-On-Sea’s Hillview Carnival Club with its colourful western-themed float called ‘Yee Ha!’.

Many residents and carnival enthusiasts have been getting an early glimpse of the entries, which are lined up along Queens Drive and the Frank Foley Parkway, as pictured here.

The route of tonight’s parade is unchanged, starting in Love Lane, near the town’s Tesco supermarket. The carts will then wend their way along Love Lane, into Manor Road and Victoria Street, before travelling along Burnham High Street and finishing in Marine Drive.

The procession will be led by a group of local motorbike enthusiasts, Burnham Bike Knights, and then members of Burnham Panto Society and local emergency services including the fire service, ambulance, BARB, Coastguard and RNLI.

Carnival-goers are being urged to dig deep and give donations to the charity collectors along the route of tonight’s procession. The event relies on donations to keep running. Visitors are also being urged to only support official carnival pedlars.

A number of Burnham-On-Sea Carnival road closures and diversions are in operation during today and visitors are advised to check them and leave extra time before travelling. Car parking is available, as featured here.

Carnival Queen Melissa Fear, pictured below with her two Carnival Princesses – Sofia Mathews and Maisie Phillips – will officially lead tonight’s procession after being selected in the Spring.
