Matt’s back wax will raise funds for Burnham football club’s refurb!

-

The chairman of Burnham United football club is set to hold a fundraising back wax later this month to raise cash for the clubhouse’s refurbishment and a charity close to his heart.

Matt Counsell, pictured, is holding the event at the club on Saturday 14th March at 7pm.

“Last year, my girlfriend and I discussed various ways of fundraising, and she came up with the idea of me getting my back waxed for charity. It seemed like a good idea at the time, however as we get closer to the event I’m thinking that maybe some of the other ideas may have been slightly less painful! However, I am always up for raising money and awareness for brilliant causes.”

He added: “The proceeds will be split between Parkinson’s UK and Burnham United AFC’s redevelopment of their clubhouse and changing facilities.”

“We want to extend the current facilities to modernise the current changing facilities for both players and officials, and expand the current clubhouse for the benefits of the club members.”

“The club has been raising money for the clubhouse redevelopment for much of this season, through several events held at the club, including a Premier League quiz night which raised £385. The project will be a joint venture with Burnham United juniors.”

The other cause being supported is Parkinson’s UK which is a cause that Matt’s girlfriend Eleri and her family strongly support.

“Her uncle was diagnosed with Parkinson’s over five years ago and since then the family have fought together to raise awareness and funds for the charity. Parkinson’s UK work to support sufferers and their family’s, and also support research into finding the cure, and improve life for the person affected.”

Matt’s target is £500 and he is accepting online donations here.
