Scores of residents in Highbridge took part in a Remembrance Day ceremony in the town.

Sunday’s event began with a parade of dozens of youngsters along Church Street to St John’s Church.

A special remembrance service was led by Rev Sharon Crossman, followed by the traditional wreath-laying at the war memorial.

The Last Post was played by Highbridge trumpet player Francis Fear, followed by the customary two minutes silence.

Highbridge’s Mayor, Cllr Bill Hancock, and other local councillors were among the dignitaries taking part in the special event.

Among the groups laying wreaths were Highbridge Scouts, Guides, Brownies, Rainbows and Cubs, St John Ambulance Badgers, plus local Army and Sea Cadets.

Members of the town’s police force, Royal British Legion and Highbridge Chamber of Trade also paid their respects.

Mayor Bill Hancock told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Highbridge did itself proud – it was a wonderful service and a moving ceremony afterwards.”

Highbridge councillor Janet Keen added: “It was a wonderful service and ceremony – Highbridge’s young people were a great credit to the town today – they were all very respectful and well turned out.”
