A special public memorial service is to be held for Dylan Cecil, the four year-old boy who is missing in the sea after slipping off Burnham’s jetty.
St Andrew’s Church on Burnham seafront will hold the service this coming Sunday at 6pm, precisely one week since the toddler went missing.
Reverend Graham Witts told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I have been speaking to Dylan’s family and they would like to hold a memorial service for him. We have therefore arranged a celebration of Dylan’s life for 6.00pm on Sunday evening in St Andrew’s Church.”
“It will be held a week to the day following the tragic accident which robbed the parents of a wonderful little boy.”
“This service will be open to all the community and I hope that various representatives of the community and emergency services can be present, both to support the family at this time, and also for us to publicly recognise the efforts of our emergency services they have been involved in this past week.”
“The family have asked that this occasion be a celebration of Dylan’s life and there will be music, hymns, readings and stories from Dylan’s short, but not uneventful, and busy life.”
“I know that the family have been touch and overwhelmed by members of the community and the support and solidarity they have received by people in the town this week.”
On Sunday morning, a minute’s silence will be held in memory of Dylan by Burnham’s emergency services at 10am at the start of the annual rescue services day.
