A group of students from Burnham-On-Sea enjoyed a dream trip to New York over the half-term school holiday.

The sixth formers from King Alfred School visited many of the city’s key landmarks including the Statue of Liberty, Central Park and the Empire State Building, as pictured here.

Jonathan Gaskell, Head of Sixth Form, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The trip also included a visit to the world-famous Guggenheim Museum where students got the opportunity to see a retrospective exhibition of the abstract artist Vasily Kandinsky.”

“The museum holds a fine collection of impressionist paintings by Monet, Manet and Cezanne and also classics by Picasso and Van Gogh.”

“In addition to a Broadway show, one of the highlights of the trip was a visit to NBC television studios where students got to make their own news bulletin and weather report.”

“The trip finished with a tour of the United Nations building where students learned of the considerable work the UN does for humanitarian projects around the world.”

“The students were also taken around the building by a UN representative from Uzbekistan, with a visit to the General Assembly being particularly interesting.”

“For some, the search for bargains in Macy’s and the thrill of riding the New York subway were most memorable!”
