Resignation prompts change of UKIP candidate in Burnham-On-Sea

-

UKIP local party chairman and regional representative Helen Hims has been selected to stand as UKIP’s parliamentary candidate in the Wells constituency which includes Burnham-On-Sea following the resignation of previous candidate Jeff Bolter due to a family illness.

Helen has lived in the area for over 20 years, and runs a family business with her husband in the village of Shipham.

She said: “I’m delighted to have this opportunity to represent UKIP in our wonderfully diverse constituency.”

“We live in an idyllic part of the country: With the inspiring Mendip Hills to the north, our popular coastal resorts to the west and the unique Isle of Avalon and surrounding Levels to the south.”

“We boast thriving local industries; important agricultural and tourist sectors and world renowned educational establishments.”

She added: “With so much to offer throughout the constituency, I will make it my priority to listen to local opinions, represent local businesses, campaign for better infrastructure and communication links to benefit all, and fight to protect our vulnerable villages, heritage sites and natural environment.”

“I think local constituents are ready for something new and different. The traditional parties have been making promises and failing to deliver them term after term. UKIP offers a fresh approach which will bring important decisions affecting local communities back to the people who live in them, rather than being taken remotely by people who think they know better.”

The election will see Liberal Democrat MP Tessa Munt defending her seat against the Conservative’s James Heappey, Labour’s Chris Inchley, The Greens’ Jon Cousins and Independent Gypsy Watkins, who have also declared their intention to run in this year’s election.
