-

Thousands of pounds has been raised for Children In Need across the Burnham-On-Sea area during a series of fundraising events.

Schools, local businesses and groups joined in the annual BBC fundraising marathon by holding fun events.

BBC Somerset’s Claire Carter broadcast her radio show from Burnham’s tourist information centre on Friday morning where she met the team and local dignitaries including Mayor Bill Hancock, pictured below.

Claire has spent a week walking 75 miles around Somerset in wellington boots to raise thousands of pounds for Children In Need. Burnham’s Mayor Bill Hanock donned his wellies, as a local farmer, for his interview!

After leaving the BIARS team at Burnham’s tourist information centre, Claire visited young fundraisers at Burnham’s St Andrew’s School, below, where she was given a warm welcome. They handed over a cheque for £320 to Children In Need.

BBC Somerset’s Claire Carter then walked to King Alfred School in Highbridge where she was again given a warm welcome and received over £1,100 raised for Children In Need by students.

She also visited Wade House in Highbridge, run by YMCA Somerset, which said funds donated to Children In Need have directly helped 100 children.

Claire went on to visit West Huntspill School where children and staff gave her an enthusiastic welcome and told her about their fundraising efforts, below.

The children were delighted to meet her and Pudsey Bear during the visit, and handed over £95.18 that the school’s under fives group had raised.

Brent Knoll School’s parliament organised games and competitions for the charity and they raised over £200 for Children In Need, below.

Andrew Rose Childminding in Brent Knoll also embarked on a sponsored walk of 2.5 miles to raise funds, pictured below, raising further funds for the charity.

Over 50 energetic fundraisers also took part in a sponsored ‘jazzercise’ sessison at East Huntspill Hall on Thursday for Children in Need, as pictured here, raising over £550.

Burnham and Highbridge Gateway Club held a pyjama themed disco during their regular Thursday evening meeting at Burnham’s BAY Centre. Funds were raised by the sale of donated cakes and drinks, as featured here.
