Burnham-On-Sea author Nigel Boley is celebrating getting into print for the first time.
Nigel, who formerly worked for local firm Boley and Scuse, has written his book to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).
As an instructor with Burnham Company of Archers for 20 years, Nigel was originally inspired to write what he described as a ‘series of tall tales with archery thrown in’.
These were intended to amuse club members, but have now been illustrated by Burnham artist Judith Champion and edited for publication by Julian Plested.
Nigel told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I was diagnosed with MND just over a year ago and am determined to help in combatting the disease.”
“I think the book will be a great way to contribute towards finding a cure and to provide help and equipment for people with MND.”
“I am indebted to Judith for her wonderful and witty artwork and to Julian for the time he has put in to making the book a reality.”
An official launch ceremony has been held at The Princess Theatre in Burnham, where Mayor Ken Smout also presented Nigel with a community award to mark his efforts.
The Burnham Company of Archers have helped with the cost of publication and the book, called ‘A Bit Off Target’, is on sale in a number of local shops, priced at £6. They include Sea Breeze, GW Hurley’s Bookshop, Cafe Aroma, Burnham Interiors and KDS Interiors.
