Police have this week appealed for witnesses after the theft of a flag being flown at half-mast near Burnham-On-Sea’s jetty in memory of toddler Dylan Cecil.
Police said on Monday that a Union Jack was stolen from the top of Pier Street on Wednesday August 22nd, just three days after the tragedy in which four-year-old Dylan died after slipping into the sea.
Police spokeswoman Claire Stanley told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “An investigation has been launched following the theft of the flag from the jetty.”
“At around midday on Wednesday August 22nd unknown offenders took a Union Jack flag that was flying at half mast.”
“We’e asking the public for help. Anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously is asked to call us on the police non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference 92079/12.”
Dylan was on holiday visiting his grandparents when he fell into the sea at around 6pm on August 19th. His body was found four days later on the beach near Burnham Sailing Club by a member of the public.
