Exclusive: £70,000 upgrade planned at Burnham-On-Sea cinema

-

A £70,000 state-of-the-art digital projector capable of screening 3D films is being planned for Burnham-On-Sea’s Ritz Cinema.

The Ritz Cinema’s owners, Pat and Beryl Scott, took over the popular entertainment venue in Victoria Street exactly five years ago and the couple have this week revealed their plans to upgrade the facilities to Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We’ve been here five years and the cinema is well supported by people in the Burnham area, although profit margins are very tight,” said Pat.

“Sixty per cent of the cost of a film ticket goes to the distributors and film makers, which doesn’t leave much to run the cinema, pay staff or fund upgrades.”

“However, 3D and digital are very much the buzz words in the cinema industry at the moment and we’d like to keep the Ritz at the cutting edge. We want to bring a digital projector to Burnham.”

“We’re looking into various sources of funding to raise the £70,000 needed to buy one.”

“It’s probably still 18 months away, but we are determined to get one in the long run and ensuring the latest movies can be shown at the Ritz.”
