The next stage of Burnham-On-Sea Hospital’s ongoing refurbishment has been completed this week with the opening of a new nine bed women’s ward.
This, and the new Out-Patients and Minor Injuries area, completes the first of four phases in the £740,000 major refurbishment of the hospital, jointly funded by the Hospital Friends group and NHS Somerset.
Tony Deahl, Chairman of the Friends of Burnham-On-Sea War Memorial Hospital, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The ward and adjoining bathroom and two toilets have the look of a new build unit and have been designed with patient privacy and dignity and infection control as priorities.”
“The second phase of the refurbishment project, where work is being undertaken at present, is the repositioning and re-equipping of the hospital kitchen and building a new entrance to the wards. It is hoped that this will be completed for use early in the New Year.”
He added that phases three and four, which include a new Day Room, Chapel, ensuite single and double rooms, should be completed by next spring.
