A huge total of £27,000 has been raised in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge for the Royal British Legion during the town’s annual Poppy Appeal.
Generous residents in the Burnham area dug deep to donate to the appeal by buying thousands of poppies during October and November, it was confirmed by Burnham Poppy Appeal this week.
Organiser Ruth Crosby, pictured above, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s been another super collection in Burnham and Highbridge – the towns really have done themselves proud.”
“The total for this year’s appeal reached a great £27,000.”
“The figure was slightly down on last year’s final total of £31,948 because it was difficult to get the supermarkets manned all the time with collectors, but we’re delighted with the amount raised and a big thank you goes to everyone who donated.”
“We’d also like to thank all all our wonderful collectors who gave their time to sell poppies for us. A special thank you goes to the Rotary Club for all their work, and the cadet services.”
“The shop and business collections were up this year and we thank GW Hurleys, The Pavilion and The Vapoury who were our top fundraisers.”
“A lot of hard work goes into this each year by many people but it is clearly very much worth it and we thank everyone for their support. It’s a super figure that shows the strong support that continues for the Poppy Appeal.”
