Concerns have been raised this week after a new food shop in Burnham-On-Sea applied for a licence to sell alcohol until 3am.
Burnham-On-Sea.com understands the soon-to-open convenience store in Abingdon Street intends to sell a wide range of goods, including alcohol.
Sedgemoor District Council licensing officer Tony Baker confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’ve received an application relating to this premises from a firm of architects in London.”
“The application refers to a new shop called Zara Mini Market which wants to open at 10 Abingdon Street and sell items such as bread, milk, vegetables and alcohol.”
“The licensing application is to sell drink between 7am and midnight on Mondays to Thursdays, and until 3am at weekends.”
One resident who lives near the premises told Burnham-On-Sea.com she was “horrified” to learn about the proposals.
“I have nothing against a shop opening here – we want new businesses in Burnham – but we really do not need an off-licence in this street selling alcohol until 3am,” she said.
