Watchfield Inn to re-open in 2018 as news is welcomed by residents

-

A pub near Highbridge that has been closed for over two years is set to re-open in February.

Gordon Stevens has agreed to lease The Watchfield Inn on The Causeway in Watchfield to an ‘experienced third party operator’ and it could be re-open by mid-February.

Alistair Gordon, Chairman of Burnham Without Parish Council, who lives next door to the property and led a campaign to save the pub, has welcomed the news.

Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com this week, he said: “It is brilliant news. I’m looking forward to being able to walk along the road and have a pint at my local again!”

“We are very pleased that a tenant has been found after a long campaign to save it.”

“As a village, we put pressure on Enterprise Inns, the former owner, to keep it as a pub and they evntually agreed to put the freehold on sale.”

“At the pub’s auction, Gordon Stevens and several others came forward to buy it and save it as a pub.”

“A lot of work has been put in by Gordon in refurbishing the property, ready for a tenant – we’re looking forward to it re-opening.”
