A group of rapping pensioners from Burnham-On-Sea officially launched their first album at the weekend with the hope of clinching number one in the seasonal pop charts!
The Wrinkly Rappers, who auditioned for ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent earlier this year, performed at Asda in Highbridge on Saturday (December 12th) following their CD, called ‘Wrinkly Rappers Unrapped’, hitting local shop shelves.
The album, costing £5, has been made to support The Alzheimer’s Research Trust and £2 from every CD will go to the charity.
The group’s Highbridge performance saw signed CDs on sale and they also made an appearance at The Pier Tavern in Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday night.
The group’s Brenda Brooks, Marian Bowers – both from Burnham – and Belinda Marks of Bridgwater, got together last year. Their raps started after listening to two young girls, who made up a rap about older people, saying they were “not cool and did not understand youngsters”.
They auditioned for ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent, but did not impress Simon Cowell and the other judges enough during the auditions in Cardiff.
Among the local shops that are selling the album are Blake Vet Group in Berrow Road, Animal Fayre in Victoria Street, Hurleys Newsagents in the High Street, Jag Phone Shop in the High Street, Highbridge Caravan Centre in Bristol Road, Highbridge, and Moore’s Fish & Chip Shop in Church Street, Highbridge.
Brenda told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Proceeds from the album will go to help support Alzheimer’s Research Trust, a really well worthwhile charity.”
