Police make three drink driving arrests in Burnham-On-Sea

-

Three people have been arrested in Burnham-On-Sea on suspicion of drink driving during the first fortnight of the police’s annual Christmas drink drive campaign.

It comes as more than 100 people have been arrested in total across the whole force area.

Police stopped 36 vehicles in Burnham as part of ‘Operation Tonic’ and made the three arrests of people suspected to be under the influence of alcohol.

Operation Tonic sees officers across the region carrying out stop-checks throughout the month and increasing patrols in hot-spot areas, including isolated locations and rat runs.

Chief Inspector Polly King said: “As well as carrying out high visibility stop-checks, we are also targeting repeat offenders.”

“If you suspect anyone of drink or drug-driving we would ask that you report it immediately. Remember, you could be saving a life.”

The campaign is being run across all five police forces in the South West, including Avon and Somerset Constabulary, Dorset Police, Devon and Cornwall Police, Gloucestershire Constabulary and Wiltshire Police.

If you suspect someone of drink-driving please call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 or the Avon and Somerset Police non-emergency number on 0845 456 7000.
