Burnham-On-Sea police hold day of ‘Operation Relentless’ events

-

Mobile phone security marking was one of many police activities taking place across the Burnham-On-Sea area on Thursday (December 17th) when officers focussed on the prevention of theft and burglaries during a special day of action.

Across the county, around 400 police officers, special constables, police community support officers and police staff ran a series of high-profile publicity events as part of the force’s latest ‘Operation Relentless’, which was aimed at emphasizing the need to protect your property.

Officers from Burnham-On-Sea visited King Alfred School to conduct security marking of mobile phones and MP3 players, as pictured above.

At Burnham’s Tesco store, PCSO Andy Dancy held a beat surgery and crime reduction display, pictured right.

A crime reduction display was also on show at the Police Pod in the Asda car park in Highbridge, where bicycle security marking took place, as pictured below.

And a beat surgery and crime reduction display was also held at Sanders Garden World in Brent Knoll, also pictured below.

Deputy Chief Constable Rob Beckley told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “By highlighting the need for extra vigilance and stepping up security at a time when traditionally people allow their guard to drop – as they get wrapped up in the spirit of the festivities – we hope communities will impose Scrooge-like opportunities for the burglar. We want people to enjoy Christmas in Somerset, to feel safe and be safe and ensure they have festive fun rather than season misery.”

Six people were arrested across the West Somerset police area for theft offences and a bike, bike wheels, cameras, a petrol strimmer and lawnmower were recovered as part of the day of action.

There have been 26 Operation Relentless ‘days of action’ since its launch in June 2005, resulting in more than 2,150 arrests.
