Burnham-On-Sea coffee drinkers raise their mugs for charity!

-

Hundreds of people across the Burnham-On-Sea area raised their coffee mugs for charity on Friday to join the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’.

Fundraisers held several local events as part of the nationwide campaign in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Visitors to Sanders Garden World in Brent Knoll, pictured, raised £500 when the store offered free tea and coffee in return for a donation to the charity.

Phil Tyzack, Manager of the garden centre in Brent Knoll, said: “Lots of people from the area came along to the event and helped us support this worthy cause.”

In Burnham, The Friends of Marine Cove enjoyed a sunny morning on Saturday at their coffee morning, raising £53 for the cause. The Princess Theatre also held a succesful event with the final sum raised yet to be announced.

Highbridge U3A’s coffee morning was also a success. One of the organisers, Pearl Price, said it had been well supported with a well-stocked cake stall and raffle raising £275.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan Cancer Support’s flagship event, raising £10million for the charity last year. Macmillan improves the lives of people affected by cancer, providing practical, medical, emotional and financial support.

Meanwhile, a Charity Night in aid of Macmillan will be held this Saturday (6th October) at the Ritz Social Club in Victoria Street, Burnham, starting at 8pm.
