Burnham-On-Sea Superdrug store considers shutters after latest raid

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Superdrug store is considering installing security shutters after Friday’s burglary in which a large quantity of stock was stolen – the latest in a spate of break-ins.

Burnham-On-Sea.com reported here that a large window at the front of the shop was smashed at around 2.30am on Friday, as pictured, to gain entry to the store in Burnham’s High Street before high-value items were stolen.

A store spokeswoman confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are definitely considering installing security shutters after this break-in.”

Shutters were installed at Burnham-On-Sea’s Boots the Chemist store earlier this year after a similar run of break-ins, as pictured below.

Meanwhile, Police are still appealing for any witnesses to Friday’s Superdrug burglary to come forward.

Police spokesman Peter Truman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were called at about 2.30am on Friday December 22nd to reports of a burglary at Superdrug in the High Street.”

“Thieves forced entry into the store and stole a quantity of perfume before making off. Anyone with information about the incident should call 101 and quote reference 5217291225.”

Forensics investigators were present at the shop during Friday, gathering evidence, as pictured.

A store spokeswoman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We received a call from the Police early in the morning to tell us what had happened. It is so disappointing – a lot of high-value products, mainly perfumes, have been stolen.”

It’s not first time the store has been targeted by raiders. In October 2016, Burnham-On-Sea’s Superdrug store was raided.

In October 2008 ram raiders attacked Burnham-On-Sea’s Superdrug store, stealing stock inside.

Then in December 2008 both Burnham-On-Sea’s Boots and Superdrug were raided and two men were later arrested and jailed.
