Traditional seaside donkey rides re-started on Burnham-On-Sea beach at the weekend after a council deal was sealed last week.
Two local residents Kathy Jones and Lindsey Ripley, pictured, stepped in to find another provider, as we reported here, and the donkeys arrived on Saturday.
Kathy told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re so delighted to have helped get the donkeys back. They are lovely for the children and are a very traditional seaside attraction.”
“The donkeys have already been heavily used, and we saw queues forming on Saturday afternoon, showing how important it is to have them back for visitors over the summer season.”
Sedgemoor District Council, which oversees beach concessions in Burnham, said the previous donkey rides provider had not had their licence renewed earlier this year.
However, Kathy and Lindsey alerted the Vincent family, who owns several donkeys, to the availability of the concession and then followed it up by completing the necessary paperwork to get the donkeys back into Burnhm.
