Burnham & Highbridge Sea Cadets are seeking new trustees to help manage the group.
At the end of this year, three of the unit’s trustees will be standing down from the management team and several vacancies have therefore arisen.
Burnham & Highbridge Sea cadets is a youth organisation for 10-18 year-olds that provides challenges to young people based on the tradition, skills and values of the Royal Navy through training and sporting activities.
The trustees of the Burnham & Highbridge Sea Cadets charity face their own challenge in raising sufficient funds to cover the normal day-to-day operating costs of the unit.
“The trustees have future plans to form a Royal Marine contingent, building alterations and the update of transport and equipment,” said a spokesman.
“To achieve these objectives we are seeking to appoint at least three new enthusiastic Trustees. We would be particularly in interested in hearing from you if you have knowledge and skills in any of finance, governance of youth-based organisations, fundraising or naval experience.”
“If you have time and energy to spare, are a good communicator and are enthusiastic about working with an organisation training in a wide skill set, providing opportunities to gain national qualifications in water-based activities and preparing Cadets for adulthood, we are interested in hearing from you.”
A Trustee would be required to attend monthly management meetings at the unit in Cassis Close, Burnham and a couple of ceremonial events each year. Working alongside the Commanding Officer, the role is to formulate decisions that ensure the success of the Unit and Cadet safety.
Parents/Guardians of current cadets belonging to the Unit and close relatives of the instructional staff cannot be considered for membership of the management team because of a potential conflict of interest.
