This was the scene on the M5 motorway at Burnham-On-Sea today (Tuesday, December 29th) after a three-car collision caused long delays for motorists returning from their Christmas holidays.
Police and ambulance crews rushed to the southbound carriageway between junction 22 at Burnham and junction 23 for Highbridge at 11.20am when several cars collided during heavy rain.
Police spokeswoman Cath Foster told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The accident occurred in the outside lane of the motorway and involved a Peugeot 206, a Freelander and a Vauxhall.”
“There was a lot of debris over the carriageway, which was cleared away by the Highways Agency. Fortunately, there were only minor injuries for the passengers.”
The Highways Agency temporarily shut two lanes of the motorway while emergency services were at the scene, causing long queues back to Sedgemoor Services.
