Burnham-On-Sea’s Marine Cove Gardens hosted a colourful May Day celebration on Bank Holiday Monday.
The usually peaceful gardens on Burnham’s seafront were alive with activity, including traditonal Maypole dancing and music, plus arts and crafts fun.
The well-attended event was opened by the children of St Joseph’s School, who performed a Maypole dance routine.
The Lisa Herbert Dance School also demonstrated their dance skills, and this was followed by a performance from King Alfred School Brass Band.
Community Gardener Jacqui Strong told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a very successful event, with good growds and weather, and plenty of children joining in the fun.”
“The Friends of Marine Cove ensured that the children were entertained during the afternoon, with fairy hunting, making grass hairy caterpillars, bird feeders and paper floral delights. Georgina Dela Velle also did some non-stop balloon wand and animal making!”
Jasmine Haines was given the role of Marine Cove May Queen and the event was also attended by Abbi Fear, Burnham and Highbridge Carnival Queen, pictured.
A further event will take place at the Cove on Thursday 21st May when the gardens will be open for visitors to complete seed sowing between 10am and 2pm. Visitors can also drop-in to find out more about joining the Friends of Marine Cove group.
