The final few hours of the General Election campaign in the Burnham-On-Sea area have seen senior Lib Dems visiting to give their backing to Tessa Munt.
Party leader Nick Clegg and Paddy Ashdown both visited on Tuesday (May 6th) to support their candidate.
Nick Clegg, pictured in Brent Knoll as the Liberal Democrats battle bus made its way from Land’s End to John O’Groats, said: “Tessa is well known for her energy and commitment to Somerset. The sheer number of orange posters shows how much support she has! Tessa has proven herself as an effective MP, with campaign wins in Wells and Westminster, and a record 700 advice surgeries under her belt. We’re heading for another hung Parliament and need strong, principled people like her in Government, anchoring our politics to the common sense, caring middle ground.”
Later on Tuesday, veteran politician Shirley Williams, who led the Lib Dems in the House of Lords, visited Burnham-On-Sea’s Frith House Care Home with Tessa to meet residents.
Shirley said: “It’s always wonderful to visit Tessa. She has so much energy and everyone is on first name terms with her. Local people clearly value her and the hard work she has achieved in just five years. She transcends party politics and we need more independent minded, ‘real’ people like her in Parliament.”
It comes after Prime Minister David Cameron made a special visit to Wells on Monday where he gave his backing to the Conservatives candidate James Heappey.
And the other candidates have also been hitting the campaign trail during the final few hours of the election, visiting voters across the Burnham area in a final bid to secure votes. Click here for profiles of all the candidates.
