Berrow beach’s access road has re-opened after council contractors carried out repairs and rubbish clearance following last week’s storms.
Sand and concrete were washed away from around the road’s surface, leaving a sharp drop at the end that could damage vehicles. Large amounts of rubbish were also washed up. Several damaged signs have also been repaired.
Sedgemoor District Council, which oversees the beach car park, closed the road for five days to allow contractors to carry out repairs and remove debris.
“Some of the concrete and sand surrounding the roadway was washed away, leaving deep, sharp edges where vehicles could damage their tyres or their sumps,” a council spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
It comes after 70mph winds coincided with high tides, whipping up big waves and the storm caused damage in Burnham-On-Sea, Brean and Berrow.
