Over 120 people from carnival clubs across Somerset gathered for Burnham-On-Sea’s annual carnival presentation ceremony on Friday evening (January 22nd).
The event, held at Brean Leisure Park, saw more than 40 trophies and cups handed to the winners of last November’s procession by Carnival Queen Jessica Rogers and Carnival President Malcolm Borland.
Gary Lawrence from Gemini Carnival Club, pictured above, received the main trophy for the best entry in the entire Burnham procession for the stunning cart ‘To The Trees’.
The trophies for the Best Feature and the Best Tableaux entries went to Gremlins for their memorable fire-breathing cart ‘Joust’.
Youngsters from Burnham’s Hillview Carnival Club celebrated receiving five awards on Friday. Their silverware included the sought-after Juvenile Feature Cup.
Jan Paul, one of Burnham carnival’s organisers, also presented a special memorial cup named after her late husband Harry to the 4th Feature Open winner, Wick Carnival Club. Jan is pictured above handing the cup to the club’s Kilvin Harris.
Carnival Event Co-Ordinator Phil New told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Friday’s presentation night was a great event when clubs from across Somerset came together to look back at a superb carnival in Highbridge and Burnham.”
“The standard of entries was excellent, particularly considering that fundraising has been tough during the middle of a recession. We’re looking forward to another great carnival this year on Monday November 8th.”
