Dozens of concerned residents attended a special meeting in East Huntspill this week to air their views about plans for a major new development of 40 homes.
As Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported here, the developer Core Strategic Land is seeking outline planning permission to build 40 new properties on land at New Road in East Huntspill, pictured here.
East Huntspill Parish Council held the public meeting on Monday (22nd January), attended by 30 members of the public.
A council spokesperson told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “East Huntspill Parish Council is a statutory consultee but the decision will be made through the planning process at Sedgemoor.”
“The following issues were raised and the Council has considered all the comments made and will be submitting their response to Sedgemoor in due course.”
“Comments and issues raised were as follows: The development must be limited to a maximum of 40 properties; there are several issues with the drainage in the locality – water drainage systems must be maintained in perpetuity; the Drainage board should offer expert opinion on the site and the planned route of the water drainage.”
“Traffic issues were considered and questioned – there is a need for some means of traffic calming. This road has both a school and playing field and as a straight road the 30 mile an hour speed limit is often ignored.”
“The need to have confirmation that the water mains and main sewer to the village has sufficient capacity to support these additional properties. A lettings policy should be put in place to ensure that the affordable housing is for people with very strong connections to the village.”
