Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge’s Mayor has this week spoken of his “utter shock” at the death of a young mother in the town at the weekend.
Laura Biss, aged 34, was killed during the early hours of Saturday morning (20th January) and Police have launched a murder investigation.
Mayor Bill Hancock told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Our thoughts and prayers go to the whole family at this terrible time.”
“Laura was a much-loved and talented young lady who had her whole life ahead of her – it’s so tragic that this has happened.”
“The Mayoress and I are in utter shock that this took place in Highbridge and feel so deeply sorry for the family.”
Laura’s family said in a statement issued earlier this week: “Laura was a beautiful daughter, a fantastic mother and a great sister.”
“She was sensitive, caring and compassionate and would think nothing of going out of her way to help others.”
“She had a great sense of humour which made her very popular. She touched so many people’s lives in a positive way.”
“She was also a talented artist, who had a great future ahead of her.”
“Words cannot express what her loss means to all her family and friends – we are heartbroken and totally devastated.”
Police said that Christopher Harris, of no fixed address, has been charged with the murder of Laura, whose body was found in Burnham Road during the early hours of Saturday, January 20th, as above.
Harris has bene charged with murder, as well as causing death by dangerous driving. He appeared at Taunton Deane Magistrates Court earlier this week and has been remanded in custody to appear at Exeter Crown Court today (Thursday 25th January).
