Couple’s shock as car becomes stranded on Brean beach

-

The owners of this car got the “shock of their lives” when they found themselves locked out of their vehicle on Brean beach with a fast-incoming tide nearby on Saturday (January 30th).

Richard and Jane Roberts, from Street, parked their Renault Scenic on the sands near Brean Cove to take their two dogs for a walk. However, when they returned, they were unable to get back into the car.

Jane told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The power in the electronic key fob had run down, leaving the car completely immobilized. Nothing would open at all – it was a nightmare. With the tide coming up the beach towards us, we were concerned that we might lose the car.”

She added: “Fortunately, Brean’s beach warden was nearby and he called on the help of BARB. When they arrived a few minutes later, we found that one of the crew has a similar car and was able to show us how to re-activate the key.”

“Much to our relief, this meant we were able to get back inside and drive it off the beach with just a few minutes to spare. Richard and I are hugely grateful to everyone who helped us.”

The grateful couple also made a donation to BARB towards its costs.
