New election voting guide to be delivered across Burnham-On-Sea

-

Sedgemoor District Council is sending a leaflet to every household in the Burnham-On-Sea area in a drive to encourage more residents to register to vote or check that they are registered for the forthcoming general election.

Councils across the UK are being encouraged to make sure that voters, especially younger people, are registered on the Electoral Register so that they can have their say later this year.

The simple message behind the new leaflet is that if you are not on the register of electors then you won’t be able to vote.

“Funding for the project has been made available through central government which provides a certain amount of cash for local authorities to encourage more people to register to vote,” council spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Voters are reminded that it is important to make sure you have a right to vote and that starts by ensuring your name is on the register, the next important stage is to make sure you turn out on election day.”

“If you are not registered to vote or not sure whether you appear on the register of electors please contact Sedgemoor District Council on 01278 435344.”
