One dead after car crashes into rhyne at Mark near Burnham-On-Sea

-

One person has died after a car crashed into a rhyne and ended upside down near Burnham-On-Sea during the early hours of this morning (Saturday).

Police have launched an investigation after a man died in the collision in the village of Mark.

Police received a call from South West Ambulance Service at 5.19am that the car was submerged in the water-filled rhyne off The Causeway near the White Horse Inn.

“The body of a man was found inside the vehicle,” police spokesman Craig Evry confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com. “We’re carrying out enquiries to establish the circumstances of this collision.”

He added that a 27-year-old man has also been arrested in connection with the incident, who is in custody for questioning.

The spokesman added: “If anyone saw the collision, or has any information which could help this inquiry, please call us via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 101 and quote log number 226 of 30 May.”

The Causeway was shut to allow the investigation into the collision to begin. The car was removed from the Mark Yeo mid-afternoon, allowing the road to re-open.
