Burnham-On-Sea Food Festival given ‘highly commended’ award

-

The Burnham-On-Sea Food & Drink Festival was recognised for its hard-work and achievements at the Royal Bath & West Show this week where the festival had been shortlisted for The Prince of Wales Award.

The community award is run by the Royal Bath & West of England Society and the Duchy of Cornwall to recognise those which have, through their own initiative, brought about improvements to the lives of the rural population in a sustainable manner.

Competition judge Allen Cotton, Council Member at the bath & West of England Society, led the prizegiving and announced that the festival would receive a ‘Highly Commended’ accolade. “The competition was very close this year and we felt that we had to recognise the impact and diversity that the Food & Drink Festival brings to its home town,” he said.

Fellow judge Rt Revd Peter Price, ex-Bishop of Wells, continued: “We have never awarded a runner-up, or second place before, but the standard of the ultimate winner, the Exmoor Youth Club, and the Food & Drink Festival was so high we all agreed that both deserved recognition. By awarding this Highly Commended certificate we hope that the Burnham-On-Sea team feel encouraged to continue to develop their fantastic festival.”

Festival director Beverley Milner Simonds said: “To have been shortlisted for this award was amazing and to come back to Burnham with a Highly Commended was a cherry on top of the May festival cake.”
