One person has died and 10 people have been left injured in a crash on the M5 motorway in Somerset.
Four cars were involved in the crash which happened shortly before 6.20am this morning (Friday), police said.
A full closure of the motorway in both directions was in place between junctions 25 for Taunton and 26 for Wellington until 4.50pm when the M5 fully re-opened.
Three people had to be cut free from vehicles, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said.
“We appreciate the disruption this will cause, but we’re currently dealing with a complex scene,” a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
About 15 crews were deployed by South Western Ambulance Service including ambulances, rapid response paramedic vehicles and two air ambulances.
It added: “Six patients were taken to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton by road ambulance and two were taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by air ambulance.”
Police and Highways England urged people to consider delaying their journeys if they are not essential.
