Crowds of spectators turned out to see more than 140 classic vehicles on Burnham-On-Sea’s seafront on Saturday evening (June 6th) during the 22nd annual Vale of Avalon Vintage Vehicle Road Run.
The popular show featured a wide range of vehicles, from cars, lorries and military vehicles, to emergency service cars and motorbikes.
Burnham’s Mayor, Cllr Michael Clarke, presented the overall Mayor’s Award to a 1977 Jaguar XJS, pictured here, owned by Brian Shore, who said he was “delighted and honoured” to have been chosen. He is shown with the Mayor and Burnham’s Town Crier Alistair Murray.
The trophy for the Burnham councillors’ choice went to a 1954 BSA Bantam 125D1 owned by Steve Cox of Burnham, who is pictured here with Deputy Mayor Cllr Paul Young.
The vehicle run started in Glastonbury and the vehicles then drove in convoy to Burnham’s Morrisons Car Park where large numbers of spectators got the chance to see them up close, as pictured here.
Other winners included best motorbike – a Triumph 1980 Bonneville owned by Robert Dyer; Best HGV Truck – a 1963 Thomas Trader owned by Arthur and Austin Ford. The Starter’s Choice award went to Alison Allen with her 1962 Corvette.
Mayor said the evening had been a huge success, telling Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was great to see such a large crowd this superb event, which seems to grow in popularity every year – I’d like to explore how we can expand it further and possibly give it extra space.”
The event is estimated has now raised over £50,000 for charities and good causes throughout its history and this year’s event raised money for Help for Heroes.
