A busy year of call-outs was reviewed at the AGM of Burnham-On-Sea’s rescue hovercraft charity BARB Search & Rescue on Friday evening (June 5th).
Supporters, crew and their families attended the AGM at Burnham’s Town Council Chambers.
Among them was Burnham’s MP, James Heappey, who said he is a “strong supporter” of Burnham’s marine rescue services and praised all those involved for their volunteer work.
He and former MP Tessa Munt, who also attended, were thanked for their support of the charity over the years.
During the AGM, BARB’s Chairman Mark Newman thanked the charity’s fundraisers, crew and supporters for their “hugely appreciated” support. Operations Manager Mike Lowe praised BARB’s crewmembers for their team spirit and close working with the RNLI and Coastguards.
Outgoing BARB Secretary Roger Flower, pictured above left, was presented with a certificate and glass memento to mark his considerable work as he retired from his role after 10 years.
Certificates were presented during to several of the charity’s fundraisers and volunteers by BARB President Neville Jones and Burnham’s Mayor Cllr Michael Clarke.
The annual telescope award, given to the crewmember who has contributed the most to the charity over the past year, was presented to Deputy Operations Manager Graham Hallsworth, right.
During the election of officers, those appointed were Chairman Mark Newman, Vice Chairman Chris Bess, Operations Manager Mike Lowe, Deputy Operations Manager Graham Hallsworth and BARB Treasurer Mike Ross.
