Donations boost for Burnham-On-Sea football club after three break-ins

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s football club has raised almost £1,000 in donations to boost security at its clubhouse after being broken into three times in the last five weeks.

Burnham United AFC’s facilities in Cassis Close were initially hit by criminals before Christmas, with money taken from the fruit machine and several televisions stolen.

Following the initial break-in the club organised fundraising activities – including an exhibition match against a local rugby team which raised more than £650.

The club was then targeted again last month with more damage carried out to the building when the fruit machine was also raided a second time.

“Just days after the second incident the club was broken into a third time, with money taken from the jukebox,” says a club spokesman.

“These incidents have caused much distress, affecting all users of the club and the small group of volunteers which spend countless hours running the club.”

The Burnham club has created a Crowdfunder page here to accept donations towards the costs of upgrading its security measures.

“We are seeking to increase the security at our premises by installing security gates around our current door shutters, CCTV and security fencing around the building.”

“Thanks to the support of the local community, local organisations, businesses and club members, we were quickly able to get back on our feet and have invested in improving our alarm system which have stretched our resources significantly.”

The club says it has already raised around 50% of its target as a result of the fundraising campaign and hopes for more success in the coming days.
