Controversial plans to build a new wind turbine that will power Brent Knoll’s RSPCA Centre look set to be approved by district councillors this week.
Sedgemoor District Council’s planning officer Rebecca Miller has recommended that the application for the centre in Brent Road be approved.
The RSPCA wants to build a small-scale 11KW, 25 metre tall wind turbine that will have a hub height of 18.3 metres to provide energy for the centre.
Brent Knoll Parish Council has objected against the scheme on the basis that the the character and appearance of the local area and landscape would be harmed.
However, Sedgemoor’s Landscape Officer states in a report on the application: “I consider that the proposed turbine, being relatively small scale, is well related to the existing RSPCA buildings, and will not be a dominating feature in the landscape. The proposed development will only have a moderately adverse impact on the landscape.”
The case officer has recommended the application be approved when the council’s development control committee meets in Bridgwater on Tuesday.
“The proposed wind turbine will not significantly undermine the character or appearance of the local landscape by virtue of its relatively moderate scale, proximity to existing agricultural development and of the nature of the proposed development itself,” she says.
