Burnham Army Cadets launch fundraising and recruitment drive

-

Members of Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge’s Army Cadet Force launched a fundraising drive on Saturday (February 27th) to help boost their funds and raise their profile in the local community.

Cadets were helping customers pack shoppers’ bags at Highbridge’s Asda store whilst raising money for a number of planned development projects.

These include buying expedition equipment for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and replenishing the supply of sports and radio equipment.

New platoon commander, 2Lt Kat Dee, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This weekend has been a great opportunity to show the local community that there is a thriving detachment of Army cadets in the area. Many customers in the store commented on how they didn’t know we existed.”

“We would like to extend a big thank you to Asda for allowing us the chance to spend the weekend working towards our existing projects.”

The Burnham and Highbridge Army Cadets are looking to recruit both boys and girls from ages 12 (school year 8) to 17. Potential recruits can visit the group at their cadet training centre in Highbridge Road (TA8 1LN) on any drill night (Mondays and Wednesdays) from 7.30pm.

Cadets can expect to experience a range of activities including shooting, fieldcraft, summer and weekend camps, adventure training, sports, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, first aid and academic qualifications.
