A huge clean-up operation is underway at a pub near Burnham-On-Sea this week after flood water gushed into the property.
Brent Knoll’s Red Cow Inn in Brent Street was inundated on Wednesday when a rhyne outside the pub overflowed, sending water into its bar, restaurant and kitchens, as pictured here.
Landlord Mike Ostler told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s the first time in the 32 years we have been here that we have seen anything like this.”
“The water slowly inundated the whole ground floor and was several inches deep in parts.”
“We managed to get the carpets up as quickly as possible to rescue them and also stacked up the furniture to save it from damage.”
“A big clean-up was launched with our staff’s help to try and limit the damage and get the pub back open as soon as possible.”
The pub re-opened for business again on Thursday evening and Mr Ostler said it was unclear how much the damage will have cost the pub.
Brent Street in Brent Knoll was particularly badly affected by this week’s floods, with rhynes unable to take away the large amount of rain water.
Burnham fire brigade was called to the village on Wednesday to pump out large amounts of water and on Thursday Wessex Water took over the job of pumping water away from drains and rhynes into nearby fields.
The Met Office predicted that the heavy rain could result in further flooding in low-lying parts of the Burnham area.
