New development of 15 affordable homes opened in Highbridge

-

A multi-million pound housing development consisting of 15 new affordable homes at Huntspill Road in Highbridge has been officially opened this week.

The new homes have been built by Southwestern Housing Society on the site of a former car lot.

The collaboration of the housing society and Sedgemoor District Council, and a further investment in excess of £1million of public grant funding from the Homes and Communities Agency was needed to build the development.

The society’s board members and staff were joined by Sedgemoor District Council Chairman Councillor Jane Moreton, plus officers from the council’s Affordable Housing Team and local residents to mark the opening, as pictured.

Speaking at the opening, Councillor Moreton recalled childhood memories of the site and said: “Over the past couple of years, the authority has successfully overseen a dramatic increase in the numbers of new affordable homes being provided. The South Western Housing Society has helped us do this. The Society is very highly regarded by the Council and has a track record of providing good quality, well managed homes.”

Sedgemoor District Council’s Affordable Housing Development Manager, Duncan Harvey, added: “Not only is this a very welcomed additional 15 affordable homes, but this development also makes a small contribution to the wider physical regeneration of Highbridge and a timely boost to the local economy. We are delighted to have be able to support this project and see it become a reality.”
