Burnham-On-Sea Mayor’s event raises £4,598 for local youth charity

-

A huge £4,598 was raised at a successful fundraising evening on Saturday (February 24th), organised by Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge’s Mayor, for his charity of the year, Somerset Time for Youth.

Over 150 people attended the fundraiser at The Oaktree to help the group raise funds for a much-needed new minibus.

Local councillors, residents and supporters of the charity were among those who attended, including the town’s former MP Tessa Munt.

The evening started with a local history slide show by John Strickland, and live music from Mono Play followed, leading up to an auction by Tamlyns’ Ian Walker.

Mayor Cllr Hancock thanked all who had attended and supported the event, saying the charity is “does incredible work.”

He added: “It was an absolutely fantastic evening and I thank everyone who came along on the night and donated items towards the raffle and auction. We didn’t expect to raise such a huge sum, so I’m really delighted with the final tally!”

Cllr Hancock named the group as his official charity of 2018 and has made helping local youth groups one of his key priorities of the year.

Somerset Time For Youth offers social and leisure activities for local special needs youngsters aged 0-18 across the Burnham-On-Sea area and they are currently fundraising for a fully accessible minibus.
