Burnham-On-Sea Police and fire crews were called to this car stuck in a rhyne in Rooksbridge last night (Tuesday, March 6th).
Emergency services were called at 8.35pm to the stranded Citroen C4 in a water-filled rhyne running besides Rooksbridge Road in Rooksbridge near Burnham-On-Sea.
“Two fire appliances from Burnham-On-Sea and a specialist rescue team from Bridgwater were mobilised to reports of a car in a river with one person still within the water,” a fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“On arrival, crews confirmed one female had self rescued and was in the hands of the Police.”
“Crews used a triple extension ladder and waterproof gear to check that there were no other occupiers still within the vehicle. Thankfully, there were no other persons involved.”
The car suffered front-end damage in the accident, with its bonnet left twisted and dented, as pictured here.
The car is a few metres away from a speed check sign which has been set up along the road to warn motorists.
