Brent Knoll road accident cuts power to homes in village

-

A dozen homes in Brent Knoll were without power for seven hours on Friday (March 19th) and a man was treated for minor injuries after a van crashed into an electricity pole, as pictured here.

Police closed Burton Row amid fears that the pole, which carries a live electricity supply, could topple onto the road.

Fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea and Weston were sent to the scene shortly after 10am, and police put in place traffic diversions to move vehicles around the scene.

An ambulance was called and a young man who was in the vehicle at the time of the collision was treated for minor injuries.

Western Power Distribution spokeswoman Sharon Croft told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Power was cut to 12 homes and the pole, which was badly damaged, had to be completely replaced by our team.”

The blue Mercedes van suffered front-end damage and police said it was not immediately clear what had caused the collision.
