Brave Jane is on a wing and a prayer for high-flying fundraiser!

A plucky Burnham-On-Sea pensioner has described a daring wing-walk as a “brilliant and breathtaking experience.”

Jane Gibbs, 63, travelled from Burnham to Compton Abbas Airfield near Shaftesbury on Sunday (July 5th) to complete the sponsored wing-walk for the Friends of Somerset Young Carers and other local charities.

Jane took to the skies on top of the 1939 Boeing Sherman to complete the feat, as pictured here.

She told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The high winds meant there was a short delay at the start and I had to wait on the ground for 40 minutes until we got the ‘all clear’ to take off.”

“I wasn’t nervous at all and didn’t worry once. I always knew that I was safe, having been fitted with a harness, goggles and ear plugs.”

“It was a bumpy start because the cross-winds meant it was difficult for the pilot to keep the plane steady, but I was completely happy.”

“We did several ‘figure of eight’ moves and tipped over to 30 degrees. The views across several counties from such a height were just fantastic – it was so clear and a perfect day!”

Jane says she would love to do another wing-walk in the future. “I loved it and would definitely like to do it again. It was absolutely brilliant – a fantastic experience.”

She welcomes offers of sponsorship and has raised over £1,700 so far. She can be contacted by e-mail at janegibbs22@btconnect.com and donations can also be made online via www.totalgiving.co.uk
