Fraudsters target Burnham-On-Sea cash machines

-

Residents in Burnham-On-Sea have been hit by a wave of cash machine crime in recent weeks.

Several members of Burnham’s discussion forums have reported here how they have had money taken from their bank and building society accounts after using cash machines in the town.

Readers have had thousands of pounds taken from their accounts through the use of concealed skimming devices attached to cash machines.

One Burnham-On-Sea.com reader, Clare Cox, said: “I have had £500 taken from my account this week and had £900 taken last December.”

She added: “On this occasion the bank wrote to inform me they had stopped my card as there was unusual activity on my account, but I only noticed the one after Christmas when I got a mini statement.”

“I was feeling angry and frustrated that the money had been withdrawn. I have been told by the bank this has happened to many people.”

Burnham-On-Sea.com reported last December how a skimming device was attached to the cashpoints outside Asda in Highbridge – catching shoppers unaware.

Police say if cash machine users notice anything unusual, they should speak to their bank. You can also report the details to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
