Body washed up in Burnham is named as missing Monmouth woman

-

Police have identifed the body washed up on Burnham-On-Sea beach earlier this month as a missing lady from Wales.

They have confirmed she is 49-year-old Maureen McMeeking, who went missing from the Monmouth area on October 23rd.

A beach walker found the body washed up next to Burnham jetty at around 10am on Saturday December 8th, prompting police to seal off the area as they investigated the discovery.

A post mortem last week confirmed the body was a woman and, on Monday, police said the identity had been confirmed.

They said Ms McMeeking’s family have been kept fully informed and Gwent Police have been liaising with Avon and Somerset Police and the Coroner.

Police in Wales issued an appeal to try and find her in October without any sightings being made.

However, her handbag, purse and mobile phone were later found near to the River Monnow in the town.
