Burnham-On-Sea’s seafront fireworks display could be switched to a new night in 2013 following this week’s decision to hold Burnham’s carnival on a Friday for the first time.
As first reported here by Burnham-On-Sea.com, the Highbridge and Burnham Carnival Committee has announced that the carnival will be held on Friday 1st November which will be the night before Bridgwater’s event, making it the first event on the carnival circuit.
Burnham’s seafront fireworks display is traditionally held on the night before Burnham’s carnival – a Sunday – but in 2013 a different night is now being considered.
Mayor Cllr Ken Smout told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “The new day for the carnival gives us a number of options for the fireworks.”
“The Thursday night is an option, but we’d like to keep the display during the carnival weekend if possible to make it attractive to visitors.”
“Moving the display to the Saturday night is a possibility. It would bring the advantage that children could stay up late to watch it without having to go to school the following morning.”
“However, I am aware that Bridgwater Carnival will be on Saturday night and we would prefer to avoid a clash.”
“The Sunday night is still probably the best night but the Town Council will discuss all the options further in the New Year before a decision is made.”
