Highbridge school’s progress highlighted by Department for Education

-

Highbridge’s King Alfred School has this week been ranked among the UK’s top 20% of schools for academic progress after its latest positive exam results.

The findings have come from The Department for Education, which has just published its full analysis of this summer’s GCSE results.

Each school is given a ranking to highlight their progress, and King Alfred School has been ranked in the top ‘quintile’ nationally.

“The school is at the 20th percentile for academic progress based on the figure of 62% of students achieving 5 or more GCSEs at A*-C including English and Maths,” headteacher Andy Owen told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

In 2007, the school languished at the 85th percentile nationally for progress – showing the improvements it has made.

Mr Owen added: “The DfE analysis of our summer results is further endorsement of the tremendous progress that the school is making and reflects the huge improvements that have been made in recent years.”

“To improve from being in the bottom 15% of schools nationally to be in the top 20% in five years is superb.”

“This external validation of our progress data combined with our excellent Ofsted inspection in October, Good with Outstanding for Behaviour and Safety, is highly encouraging and is testament to the hard work and commitment of our students, parents, governors and staff.”
